Final major project
This was for a project at university. For this project, I had to choose a theme that was of interest to me, and undertake thorough research into that area. For my Final Major Project in Graphic Design, I chose to study the subject of sticker street art and graffiti. I had become interested in this subject because of the frequent occurrence of seeing sticker graffiti.
Every day on my commutes to university or just walking through the streets, I would always see stickers stuck up on lamp posts, electrical boxes, walls and other objects. I chose this subject for my major project as I wanted to get a better understanding of why people do it and I was interested in finding out when stickers became a medium for artists to express themselves.
For my outcome, I have designed a book, website, and stickers. I created a brand identity to base my outcomes around and so all my outcomes link and fit together. The book dives into the history of the culture of sticker street art, and looks into different aspects of the movement. I have included primary documentation of stickers from the streets of Portsmouth as well as secondary research for images I could not attain.
Inside also includes an interview with Portsmouth local sticker artist, Eric Downer and pages where the audience can ‘tag’ themselves. The website side of this outcome displays all the images I have taken and documented from the streets of Portsmouth as well as having snippets of what’s included in the book, such as the history of the movement. My outcome is displayed in a big sticker packet, replicating the packaging that stickers are sold in.
